The Manor Clinic receives referrals from General Practitioners and a wide range of healthcare specialists to treat patients who are suffering from depression.
Referrals are made for an initial appointment with Consultant Psychiatrists with the aim of devising an individually tailored programme to treat the depressive illness within a safe and structured environment.
For many patients this first appointment is worrying. Patients are sent a website address where they can see and hear the Consultant Psychiatrist describe what will happen during the assessment interview.
At the end of the assessment, patients are given written material offering guidance to help them choose their care pathway and the process is undertaken in a caring, swift and confidential manner.
Depression can be a relapsing condition and relapse prevention is an important part of treatment from the beginning of therapy.
The treatments range from medication to the psychological treatments of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Cognitive Analytical Therapy. Lifestyle changes regarding exercise, caffeine and alcohol are important and self-help programmes, anxiety management, mood management and relapse prevention programmes are all brought together to provide a comprehensive treatment programme.
When medication is used patients are about twice as likely to improve compared to taking no medication. Often it is difficult to get the right combination of antidepressants correct on the first attempt and we need to discover the medication that suits the patient best.
The combination of inpatient, day patient and outpatient treatment and the content of the programme are discussed with the patients and a care plan arranged.
Where there is private medical insurance funding, any such care plan is discussed with the insurer to obtain funding approval prior to the patient’s admission.
Patients and their families are welcome to come and view The Manor Clinic at no cost. They are guaranteed a warm welcome on entering The Manor Clinic.
