WHAT IS DEPRESSION?

Depression is one of the most common mental health issues facing people today. Whilst it is only natural to have feelings of sadness or to feel ‘low of mood’, depression occurs when these feelings persevere for long periods of time; sometimes lasting for weeks or months rather than days. Depression can interfere with daily life and can impact on a person’s ability to function effectively.

SOME COMMON SYMPTOMS ASSOCIATED WITH DEPRESSION ARE:

  • a lack of motivation and energy.
  • feelings of hopelessness and helplessness.
  • difficulty with sleeping.
  • continuous low mood and/or sadness.
  • unexplained aches and pains and constipation.
  • feeling anxious and worried.
  • low self esteem and emotional mood swings.
  • reduced interest in leisure and social activities.
  • difficulties at home and with the family.
  • feelings of irritation and intolerance of others.
  • the inability to perform well at work.
  • change in appetite and weight variations.
  • reduced sex drive.
  • avoiding contact with friends leading to a feeling of isolation.

If you can relate to any of the above symptoms you may well have an issue with depression and there are positive steps which you can take to deal with this debilitating condition.

The Manor Clinic’s treatment for depression involves a professional, individually tailored approach overseen by a consultant psychiatrist together with fully qualified therapists and nurses in a confidential and safe environment.

THERE IS A SOLUTION

The first port of call is to obtain a diagnosis of what sort of mood problem you may have. An appointment with a psychiatrist will help you plan your treatment options. This can be arranged either  by a referral letter from your GP or by writing to Carley Shuttle, the practice secretary, at The Manor Clinic. Her telephone contact number is 02380 464721 and her mobile 07522 104466. Please note the fax number for referrals is 02380 472292.
