Addiction is a lifelong disease. A person in recovery will find that they have to abstain from the substance or behaviour that they were once addicted to and continue to use the tools and coping strategies that they learned during their time in treatment.
At Manor Clinic, we believe that learning to manage an addiction is something to be celebrated, and people who reach this life-changing goal should be supported in their life going forward. That’s why we’re committed to looking after our people when they leave us, and offer free aftercare to our patients for the rest of their lives.
What is aftercare?
Aftercare refers to the ongoing support that someone receives when they leave addiction treatment. Going home following a 28-day Addiction Treatment Programme can be challenging. You will be returning to situations and people that may have contributed to your addiction in the first place and will need to navigate your new life in recovery while being surrounded by certain obstacles. This can be really difficult when you’re used to 24-hour support. That’s why a comprehensive aftercare programme is essential to maintaining your recovery – it means regular and ongoing contact with the centre, as well as unlimited advice and support if you’re ever struggling.
What happens during aftercare at Manor Clinic?
Manor Clinic’s aftercare offering includes:
Weekly aftercare sessions
We hold weekly aftercare sessions every Wednesday between 10am and 4pm. These popular sessions allow you to come together with other people who have attended Manor Clinic’s Addiction Treatment Programme to talk about your experiences in the ‘real world’ following treatment, provide support and words of encouragement to others and learn new coping mechanisms to help you in your recovery journey.
They can also help you to keep in touch with fellow alumni and form supportive friendships with other people who know what it’s like to be recovering from an addiction. The sessions also provide you with the chance to meet people at different stages in their recovery, some who are several years down the line, to see how far they have come and how they have achieved it.
The aftercare sessions are led by our expert therapists, who can help to guide you through any difficulties that you may be going through and provide advice on how to manage your challenges. Our sessions are supportive, compassionate and dedicated entirely to you and your wellbeing.
The sessions are completely flexible. You are able to attend for as much of the day as you’re able to or want to, and come to as many sessions as you’d like. Our recommendation is that you attend as many full sessions as possible to aid in your recovery.
24-hour telephone support
As well as our weekly aftercare sessions, we also offer a 24-hour telephone line, which means that you’re able to speak to a member of our expert team whenever you need to, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
We understand that your home environment may be full of triggers and challenges, and sometimes you need to be able to speak to someone immediately instead of waiting for the next weekly session. With our telephone line, you can reach out for support day or night, for the rest of your life.
Regular alumni events
As well as our weekly aftercare groups and 24-hour phone line, we also hold a number of alumni events throughout the year. These events are hugely popular and provide a great chance for you to enjoy socialising with former patients in a less structured way.
We hold summer BBQs, Christmas parties and other events, enabling you to come together and celebrate your recovery successes in a positive and empowering environment.
